Anna Fulchiero Obituary

Niantic - Anna Maria Fulchiero, aged 100, passed away in her home June 28, 2023, the end of a long, fulfilling life. She was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Bologna, Italy, to Camillo and Argia Moscardini, the youngest of three daughters.

During World War II, Anna married a young Italian physician, Egidio, who was serving on a Red Cross train to Russia. They lived in Jordan from 1948 to 1956, where Egidio worked in Italian missionary hospitals, serving Bedouin patients as well as Royalty. Anna accompanied him with their young children to Hartford, where he worked at Saint Francis Hospital, eventually settling in Niantic in 1960, when he became chief of anesthesiology at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Anna adapted to her new homeland, but always kept her strong Italian roots and close ties with her Bologna family. She passed her Italian heritage on to her children; recounting vivid stories of her childhood and home country. Anna was the heart of her family; above all else she was devoted to her husband and children. She had six children born in three continents over 23 years. Anna always gave selflessly of herself, with her calm nature, intuitive understanding, minestrone soup and gentle, generous spirit. She brought an appreciation for beauty, culture and art into the home, and inspired everyone with her beautiful garden.

Anna and Egidio journeyed through life together for almost 60 years. She out-lived Egidio by 21 years, but always ensured that his life was joyful and full, supporting his passion for books, sailing, painting and art. Anna continued to look after her family well into her 90s; only in the last several years was she forced to allow us to look after her.

Anna was a woman of many interests and talents. She studied the classics at school and earned a teaching diploma; created beautiful floral arrangements at her garden club; and she enjoyed art lectures at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum. Anna played bridge, loved her crossword puzzles and excelled at Trivial Pursuit. She spent many happy hours tending to her garden. Anna supported her husband and children's sailing life at the Niantic Bay Yacht Club for many years.

Anna was predeceased by her parents; and two older sisters; her husband Egidio in 2002; and son Andrew (Liliana) in 2021. She is survived by five children: Frank (Gig) of Mystic, Anita (Tom) of Medford, Mass., Cristina and Carol (Patrick) of Niantic, and Ralph (Silvia) of Austin, Texas. Her beloved grandchildren will forever remember their Nonna: Nicolina, Jessica, Rosanna, Jenna, Marissa, Graziella, Isabella, Adriana, Marco, Leigh and Kristopher; as well as her two great-grandchildren, Jack and Hudson. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Tamo and Ia for their love, devotion and for bringing a smile to Anna's face during the last year of her life.

In memory of Anna, please perform a selfless act of kindness and generosity toward someone in need. Donations in her memory can be made to Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice, 1290 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT 06109 or hartfordhealthcareathome.org. The family deeply appreciates their invaluable comfort and support.

Private funeral services were held for Anna at Saint Matthias Church.

My name is Tatia Pitt. I was taking care of Anna from 03/2018 to 09/2022. I´ll always remember her. I loved her because she was kind and nice to me. I still remember all the details from her life. She talked about it all the time and that made her happy. I know she loved me too. This is sad. She was amazing person. She knew and noticed if there was something that bothered me. Rest in peace!
