Antonio Sardo Obituary

Stonington - Antonio A. Sardo, 87, of Stonington, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at The Westerly Hospital.

Born on March 12, 1922, in Monte, Murtosa Portugal, he was the son of the late Agostinho and Felicidade (da Silva) Sardo.

He married Laurinda Tavares on June 19, 1948, in Portugal. Shortly after they were married they came to the United States, settling in Stonington since 1967.

Antonio was retired from the American Velvet Co. after many years of service. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Church.

Besides his wife of 61 years, he leaves his two daughters, Rose and Maria Sardo, both of Stonington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Maria Amelia Sardo; a sister, Evangelina Sardo; and a nephew, Manuel Carinha.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, from the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Stonington. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
