Armand Ducharme Obituary

Pawcatuck - Armand Edward "Ed" Ducharme, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018.

Ed was a loving, kind, generous and gentle man. He was born May 29, 1932, in Brockton, Mass., to Mildred (Mellman) Ducharme and Joseph Ducharme.

After his 1955 graduation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy he was commissioned into the U.S. Navy, continuing until 1967 as a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve. From 1959 to 1963 he travelled the world while serving with the Merchant Marine. Ed then joined United Technologies as a fuel cell engineer for 25 years. He worked on the Apollo program experiencing many space launches. Ed never lost his love for the ocean and maintained a presence on the sea with his boat into his 80s. His passion for lobstering, fishing, and the outdoors is but one legacy passed on to family and friends.

Ed was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Ducharme.

He is survived by his much beloved wife of 42 years, Diane Ducharme; and five children from his first marriage to Barbara Brown Ducharme, Gary Ducharme of Ellington, Scott Ducharme of Marstons Mills, Mass., Beth Daly and husband, John, of Forestdale, Mass., Rebecca Berry and husband, Marshall, of Hyannis, Mass., and Kirk Ducharme and wife, Pamela, of Plymouth; seven grandchildren, Shiloh Ducharme, Sarah Daly, Rachael Daly and fiancé, Michael Palm, Emily Daly, Jack Daly, Hannah Berry, Marshall Berry and partner, Lyndsey DeCosta; and great-grandchildren, Jake, Hailey, Jason, Joshua, Jordan, and on the way; Adeline Ducharme, Brinley Rose and Riley Marie Palm. He loved visits from his grandchildren and was fortunate enough to see them grow to be fine young adults. That love was extended to his beautiful great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Richard and wife, Lynn Paseka and Scott and wife, Robyn Paseka; and many beloved nieces and nephews; and his cherished dog, Bonnie.

Ed and Diane did a lot of traveling but their best times were spent with family and friends. They also enjoyed his many home improvement projects. A standout athlete in many sports at both the high school and college level, Ed was an avid Red Sox fan (depending on their season!) and ardently rooted for the Patriots and UConn's basketball teams.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Hospice for their comfort, kindness and professionalism.

Diane and family,

Both Pete and I were so saddened when hearing of Ed's passing. Ed was a wonderful man to have known and to be considered a friend of throughout the years we knew him. We are so very sorry for your loss and share your grief at this most difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

We both have so many wonderful memories of fun times spent throughout the years. First at work starting in the early 60's and the great times spent at your house along with the summer parties at our house. I will never forget how both you and Ed traveled to OH when my son John got married and the both of you came out for his wedding.

Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

With Love & Sympathy,
Gail & Pete Wojciechowski

Diane and Family,

John and I send our deepest condolences to all of you. Ed was the most kindest, gentleman I am proud to say to have worked for when I first worked at Fuel Cells. He was such a warm and loving person and will surely be missed. May he be resting in the arms of God and watching over his family.
