Mrs. MacDonald was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Dorchester, Mass. She was the daughter of Harry and Hazel (Delesdernier) Jukes. At the age of 15, she graduated from Rockland High School in Massachusetts in 1932. A high-spirited young woman, Mrs. MacDonald worked as a waitress in Massachusetts and Florida as a teenager. She then was employed for many years in the business office of E.T. Wright in Rockland and at the former Newberry's also in Rockland. She married her husband, Melvin MacDonald on Aug. 18, 1940, in Rockland. He passed away Sept. 1, 1988.
A long time resident of Rockland she moved to Wareham, Mass., in 1968. Mrs. MacDonald enjoyed many years teaching her children and grandchildren the fine points of card games. In her later years, she was a member of the Wareham Elks where she was noted as an excellent dart player and a member of the Wareham Congregational Church. Mrs. MacDonald moved to Groton in 1998, to be closer to her son and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Richard MacDonald and his wife, Judy of Niantic; her daughter, Jean Baranowski and her husband, Broni of Montgomery, Ala.; four grandchildren, Laura MacDonald of Norwich, Dr. Amanda MacDonald and her husband, Edward Obarowski of Islip, N.Y., Jeffrey Baranowski of Prattville, Ala. and Tara Woods and her husband, Chris of Wetumpka, Ala.; and by her great-granddaughter, Bailey Woods.
Mrs. MacDonald is predeceased by her brother, Harry Jukes Jr. of Rockland, Mass. and her sister, Edith D'Amato of Scituate, Mass.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Oct. 9, 2008, at the Chapman, Cole, and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway Rt. 28, Wareham, MA. Interment will be in Agawam Cemetery, Wareham. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
