Barbara Smith Obituary
She was born Dec. 4, 1944, in New London, the daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (Goula) Johnson. Barbara was employed at Stop & Shop in Groton for many years as a cashier before retiring.
Besides her fiance Al of 28 years, Barbara is survived by a sister, Elody DeNicolo of Bolton; two stepdaughters, Deborah Farmer and Denise Blenkle, both of Michigan; her granddaughter, Nichole Hall; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Justin Hall. She was predeceased by her husband, Marquis A. Smith, a son Jason Allen Smith, and a stepson, Mark E. Smith.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory, and close to her heart, may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide [email protected]

My Dear Sweet Barbara. Great person, wonderful cousin, always a good friend and relative.
I will miss her dearly. I have good memories with Barbara going way back. My deepest sympathy goes out to Ellys and Al. Unfortunate loss for Zuliani / Goula family. Cynthia, Vic & Rob will miss her dearly.

Remembering Barb's kind heart, silly laugh and all of those discussions at the kitchen table, through out the years. I have found comfort knowing that she will be reunited with her family, once again. Imagine that reunion with Dad, Jason, Mark, Allen and her parents. May she rest in peace. God bless Al and the rest of the family as we all morn her loss.

I will miss Barbs beautiful smile and that laugh. She was always always so kind to me and my family. She can rest easily in Gods hands with Mark, Jason, Mark and Allen as they spend eternity in Gods grace. Until we meet again...

We are looking after Al as promised (and making him eat his salad). Rest in peace knowing he is being taken care of now and will continue to be.

I remember Barbara fondly from Stop and Shop and recently she had been my mother's roommate at Fairview where we all chatted. She was a sweet, kind woman. So sorry for your loss
