Brittany Coles Obituary
Brittany was born in New London, on July 21, 1988, to Alfred and Genelle Coles of New London. Brittany graduated from Norwich Free Academy in June, 2008. She and her mother, Genelle Thomas-Sands, relocated to Detroit in 2009. She attended and graduated from Dorsey Culinary School in Roseville, Mich., in September, 2010.
Her passions were cooking and spreading sunshine with her beautiful smile and upbeat personality.
Brittany is survived by her parents, Alfred L. Coles of New London and Genelle Thomas-Sands of Detroit; sister, Venus Thomas-Coles of Hawaii; loving grandparents, Alfred and Jean Coles of Detroit; very special aunt and uncle, Sharon and Ben Dawkins of Cheshire, uncle, Tommy Hodges of Michigan; many cousins, relatives, and friends.
Services are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2011, at the James C. Cole Funeral Home, 2624 West Grand Blvd., Detroit MI 48208.
Our world will be forever darkened without Brittany's sunshine.

I didn't know you as well as I know your Mom and Dad, but the little interaction we did have was refreshing and uplifting. You had a positive perspective and your smile illuminated the environment surrounding you and brought joy to all in your presence. Honestly, I still find it hard to believe that you are really gone. Every time I think about you all I can remember is our fun times during cheerleading practice and getting in trouble for dancing instead of paying attention. You were Brittany to everybody else, but you were my "Pooh". You lived in the biggest piece of my heart. What we had went far beyond Auntie & Niece. You, dear Britt, were the "wind beneath my wings". You lifted me up and I lifted you up even higher. I always told you to stand on my shoulders and reach for the stars. However high you wanted to go, Auntie would be there to lift you higher. From the day you were born I taught you to be confident; to be poised; to be kind to other's; to be respectful of others; to respect and love yourself. You did all that and much more. You let your light shine on everybody you met. Your sense of humor was wicked! You had a passion for life! I was always so very proud of you. It was an honor to call you my Niece. You were so beautiful, but you never acted it. I have pictures of you on my desk, in every room of my house, and in my wallet. Everywhere I go, you are with me. I never took a trip without bringing my Pooh a souvenir back. How about the Mexican blanket! Cool ain't it? The Obama-in-Martha's Vineyard tee-shirt. You gotta admit, that rocked!; tee-shirts from every port in the Carribbean. The earrings from Aruba and on & on. Girl, you were always foremost in my heart. We didn't get to take that cruise we talked about, but we will be together again some day. Brittany, I don't know how to live without you. Please help me from heaven. I just can't believe you're gone and I don't know how I'm going to make it without you. You are gone much too soon. When all is said and done, everybody loved you, but God loves you more. He needed a special angel and he chose you. Rest now my beautiful Neice. We will see each other again someday. Keep smiling down on all of us who knew and loved you. When my tears stop flowing, you will still be the "wind beneath my wings", One more thing, Pooh: You never left my house without taking some of my jewelry with you. "Pooh" you have been the light of my life since the day you born. For 22 years it's been Pooh and Auntie doing everything together. We laughed so much! We loved to shop; we loved shoes; we loved eating out; we loved costume jewelry and we loved just being together. I don't know how I can go on with out your smile lighting up my life. Your silly laugh still rings in my ear. You loved life like nobody else I've ever known. Baby Girl, you were my life! There is nothing on earth I wouldn't do for you. There is nothing I wouldn't do to get you back if I could. I've helped you solve your problems. I've always come up with a fix for whatever was wrong. Britt, Auntie can't fix this one. Because you always left my house with a piece of my jewelry, I will see to it that you wear a piece of my jewelry with you into heaven. I have loved you like you were my own daughter. Because I had no children of my own, Pooh, you were my child. You alphabetized all my C.D.'s and now they are out of order again. I need you to come back and fix them again. I need you to make me laugh. I need you here with me, in my life. God makes no mistakes. We loved you, but God loved you more. I know you are in heaven with Uncle Wayne on the B-B-Q grill and you are cooking all the side dishes. Heaven will feast tonight and every night! Your work here on this earth is done.
