Carmelo Perrone Obituary

Waterford - Carmelo "Cam" Anthony Perrone, 86, of Waterford, entered eternal life on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016.

Mr. Perrone was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in New London, the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Giaimo) Perrone. Mr. Perrone was an alumnus of the former Chapman Technical High School, the University of Connecticut, receiving a bachelor's degree in bacteriology. He entered in the U.S. Navy in 1952, completed Naval aviation training in Pensacola, Fla. and received his wings in 1954. During his active duty years, he was a flier in Patrol Squadron 10 at Naval air station in Brunswick, Maine. He left active duty Navy, maintaining his reserved status from the Naval Reserves as a lieutenant commander and went to work as a field service representative with United Aircraft and Grumman Aircraft.

He married the former Mary Loraine Johansen, on Aug. 11, 1956, in New London. His "Sweet Loraine" predeceased him in death in 2010. In 1960, he began a career of over 50 years as an investment broker in New London with many prestigious firms. Cam retired in 2012 from Wells Fargo Advisors.

Mr. Perrone is survived by two daughters, Judith Perrone of New London and Amanda Dombrowski of Williamsburg, Va., and her husband, David; granddaughter, Kaylee Dougherty of Salem, Mass. and her husband, Nick; grandson, Jack Dombrowski of Boston, Mass.; alongside several nieces and nephews who survive him.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Wilbur and Carmela Oden.

Growing up as "Cam Perrone's" daughters meant knowing everyone in town. It didn't matter who we bumped into, the moment we mentioned our father we were greeted with a smile. Walking down State Street for lunch at the Whaler with him, everyone passing by would say "Hi Cam, how's the market today?" In his free time, Cam enjoyed golf and was a lifetime member of the former New London Country Club where he won the super senior golf tournaments. He was a member of the Thames Yacht Club where he enjoyed sailing and racing with his daughter. As an avid fly fisherman on the Salmon River, he also loved tying his own flies. Mr. Perrone was past president for New London Lion's Club and a member of the former Son's of Italy and the New London Elk's Club 360. He was a member of St. Joseph Church for 80 years, singing in the choir and served as the investment broker for the church.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 10 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, 17 Squire St., New London. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Boston Children's Hospital, www.childrenshospital.org or St. Joseph Church Capital Campaign, 37 Squire St., New London, CT 06320.
