Carol Guy Obituary

Niantic - Carol Guy (Leger), 86, died unexpectedly at her home in Niantic Oct. 21, 2023. She was born and raised in East Hartford, where she and her husband Don also raised their own family before moving to East Lyme in 1998.

Carol made friends in kindergarten at St. Mary's School, whom she remained friends with all her life. She graduated from East Hartford High School and eventually became involved in local politics. A proud Democrat, she never shied away from being called a politician and ultimately became the first woman to hold the position of Town Council Chairman. She began her career at Amplex, then served the State of Connecticut for almost 20 years before retiring in 2002, as the human resources manager for the Department of Correction.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Donald Guy; her parents Treffle and Zena (Landry) Leger; and her sisters, Eileen Wilson and Marie Mowrey. She is survived by three daughters, Donna Moore (Dan) of Marlborough, Karen Wilson (Nels) of Norfolk, and Lauren Guarino (Dave) of Vero Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren: Jack (Nikki), Elly and Maggie Moore, Linden and Colin Wilson; and her sister Linda Lynch of East Lyme, who lived within shouting distance of Carol for most of their lives. Together with Linda's husband Ed, they still gathered weekly with friends and painted the town at local restaurants. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends who brought great joy to her life.

Calling hours, followed by a memorial service will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment will be private in the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. For directions, obituary information, or to sign the family's online register book, please visit Legacy.com. So sorry to hear of Carol's passing. I was grateful for the friendship she shared with my mother, Susan Blackwell, and their time on Board of Ed. Also the mother-daughter dinners I had with my beloved friend Donna. Sincere condolences to all of Carol's family, especially her 3 daughters, Donna, Karen and Lauren. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Carol & I have been friends all thru St Mary's School, East Hartford High, she was a bridesmaid at my wedding. We spent many fun summers at Lake Congamond at her parents cottage. Looking back, the memories have been profound and have shaped many sections of our lives.
I am very sorry I will not be able to attend the services. However, Carol will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I am grateful for her forever friendship.
God bless her family. I know she loved you all. Chevy

Aunt Carol if I had known that last Wed would be the last day I would see you, I would have given you the biggest hug ever and thanked you for all you have done for me my whole life. As a kid growing up next door to you, you brought me on vacation, to concerts and numerous other Guy family events even though I´m a Hannon. You encouraged me to apply for that job in corrections which I got and it enabled me to already be retired. I will miss chatting with you about different tv shows, politics and family. I will never forget our drives to or from Florida. You were always so generous to family. I admire your zest for life and overcoming anything, nothing stopped you. I will miss teasing you about those French Canadians and "the Landry sisters", but most of all I will miss laughing with you. Thank you for letting me bring the dogs over which has helped prepare them for therapy dog training and most of all thank you for treating me like a 4th daughter. You are forever in my heart, love and miss you Michelle
