Carolyn Clark Obituary

Colchester - Carolyn Horsham Clark, 79, of Colchester, passed away April 10, 2024. She is survived by her two children, Dennis (Kristen) and Allyson (David); and four grandchildren: Alexa, Spencer, Haylee and Shea. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Ralph; as well as her parents, Carolyn and Frederick.

Carolyn was born in Suffern, N.Y., and graduated from Queens College, City University of New York in 1971, before moving to Connecticut. Carolyn was a business teacher at East Lyme High School for 30 years, until her retirement in 2004. In retirement, Carolyn enjoyed spending time at White Sands Beach, sharing a meal with friends and family at The Hideaway and cruises. She always made time to have lunch with her former colleagues and talk about old times.

Carolyn was a huge fan of women's basketball and would arrange her schedule around the UConn Lady Huskies or Sun, and let the "New Yorker in her" come out when she felt the refs made a bad call. Despite claiming that living in Connecticut had tamed the New York part of her, you'd never know it by her sense of humor. In 2019, Carolyn relocated to Hebron, where she was able to spend more time with family and especially enjoyed her Saturday mornings doing puzzles and eating munchkins with her grandkids.

The family will receive friends and family at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic, followed by burial at Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Carolyn's name to Beacon Hospice Care, 111 Founders Plaza #1802, East Hartford CT 06108. Beacon provided amazing support to both Carolyn and her family in her final days; their kindness and compassion went above and beyond.

Allyson and Dennis. I just learned about your Mom´s passing from Kristy the other day. I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom and I spent some great times together at ELHS. I will always remember the fun lunches we spent together in the Math Office. She joined us every day for lunch and we thought of her as an honorary member of the Math Dept. She will be missed.
