Claire Rosen Obituary

Uncasville - Claire Mildred (Caron) Rosen asked God to take her home and sadly passed away peacefully Jan. 15, 2024. She was born in Norwich, Aug. 23, 1935. She was 88 years old. She was married 25 years to the love of her life, Jerry Rosen, who predeceased her in 1979. She was also predeceased by her parents, Louise and Isadore Caron. She is survived by her sister Catherine Caron of Windham; brother David Caron of Meriden; children: Dory Rosen, Sandra Brown (Rosen), Michael Rosen and Deborah Rosen. She leaves seven grandchildren: Kaitlin and Zachary Stewart, Jeremy Rosen, Allison and Daniel Brown, and Wesley and Jesse Roman.

She married Jerry Sept. 10, 1955, in Norwich, at the Beth Jacob Synagogue on Church Street. After losing her beloved husband, she courageously entered Mohegan Community College in June of 1979, to acquire a skill to support her and her family for the years to come. She graduated with an associate's degree in science in 1982. In the following year, she obtained her LPN license after attending the program at Norwich Tech. In March of 1984, she took a third shift job at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, 15 of the 16 years there were spent on maternity which was later to become LDRP. In September of 1985, she began taking classes at ECSU while working nights. Working at Lawrence + Memorial made it possible to acquire her B.A. in sociology in 1988.

Claire had a love for the town of Jewett City which remained in her memory throughout her life. The world at that time and the people of that era gave her memories she often reflected on. The friends she made as a youngster at St. Mary's Parochial school and Griswold High School brought the love she longed for. The class of Griswold High 1953 had folks she remembered into seniorhood. While it takes a village to raise a child, it was the small town of Jewett City that raised Claire. She always felt most fortunate to have lived there. The Slater Library was a mainstay growing up and this is where she discovered her passion for reading. Claire had wonderful memories of family vacation adventures and especially enjoyed going to Cooperstown, N.Y. and going to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Saying a final goodbye to mom is so very hard when it is forever. We will not be able to physically hold and hug her anymore, but she will always be with all of us in our hearts and deep in our souls. "See you later alligator."

Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the Woyasz and Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Montville. There is a Celebration of Life for Claire immediately following at the Montville Polish Club upper banquet hall. The bar will be open at 5 p.m. and family will join shortly after.

Goodbye old friend! We shared many happy old memories from Saint Mary´s to Griswold. Although our paths went down different roads, we rejoined at reunions. With many fond memories, I will cherish our childhood adventures of ice skating on marshes close to your home, Saturday movie matinee, high school sports & fun activities. Memories! Till we meet again, safe journey. Love, Angie

I met Claire on a college school trip to Ireland. We didn't know each other but we soon became friends. We were both alone and we both had been through a lot. We had breakfast and dinner together. We enjoyed each other's company. I remember what a kind person she was. I thought of her often over the years. I met her again years later. Little did I know she would be my labor and delivery nurse at the hospital. She was a lovely person.

Dear Dory, Sandra, Michael and Deborah --

You will not remember me. I grew up diagonally across the street from you, at 11 Park Avenue Extension. I was older than you, I think a year younger than your uncle David, and was off to college and all that followed when you were still on the young side. I learned so much about your mother from her obituary and I am grateful for the love you put into telling her story. I knew from my parents (who are long deceased) that your mother was strong, especially in her love and care for all of you, but I didn't know how strong and driven she was. And, as you wrote, courageous. She's given you a rich legacy to carry on in your own lives, and much love to always carry deep in your hearts. I hope that memories will bring you comfort and peace - and joy in knowing that hers was a life well-lived.

Thinking of you.
