Clarance Hughes Obituary

Ledyard - Clarance "Pat" W. Hughes, 95, of Ledyard, husband of the late Marie (Eidesheim) Hughes, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Mystic, he was the son of the late William and Fannie Belle (Carey) Hughes and was a resident of Ledyard since 1988. Pat was an office manager with Sonoco Products Co. for many years up until his retirement in 1980.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a life member of the VFW Post 3263 Mystic and the Groton Elks Lodge #2163. Pat was an avid reader who enjoyed all types of mystery and history novels. He was also a UCONN Men's and Women's Basketball and Boston Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his son, William Hughes and his wife, Donna, of Taftville; daughter, Marie Campbell and her husband, Gary A. Campbell Sr., of Ledyard; six beloved grandchildren, Bethany Buckles, Gary A. Campbell Jr. and Jeffrey Campbell, W. Russell Hughes, Christopher and Katherine Hughes; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank his good friend and neighbor Buzz Graves for his kindness and concern towards Pat through the years.

His family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, immediately followed by a service at 1 p.m., at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1 Mystic. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the American Heart Assoc. (www.heart.org) or to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
