Dear Dan, At first, there was not a single day that passed that I did not think about you and wonder how this could have happened to such a good heart. Now, days go by and although it's easier because you have left all of us with such great memories, I still think it sucks that we didn't get to say good-bye and tell you that we love you so much! I look for your green Vermont plates on cars at your Mom's house on holidays and wish we could crack each other up around the table again. I miss you, Dan. My best to Mrs. Murphy, Mike, Mike and Meghan. Thinking of you!

I can't say that I understand the why's or how's of your passing as much as I would like, but the one thing that this time has given me is a greater appreciation for what your life meant to everyone lucky enough to be part of it. Rereading these comments, and seeing that even now people still find their way back here to pay tribute to you, I am heartened. It is a special man who not only believes in the potential of others, but dedicates his life to helping them realize it. You did that for me and I watched as you did it for your friends, for your family and for the hundreds of students you taught. I miss you all the time, and I am not sure that feeling of loss will ever go away, but I now feel something more than sadness when I think of you. I feel hope that the good you did in life is so plentiful that it will always outweigh the sorrow you left us in your death. I feel confidence that I am using the strength you gave me to do something good with my life.

Danny I went to see you on your birthday as I have so many times since you left us.It seems like such a short time ago we were turning 18 together. What happened to our life time? Do you know how much I miss you and how much it still hurts? You took a piece of my heart with you. You forever changed my life for the better. I would not have chosen anyone else to have shared that passage from child to (young) adult with but you. I look at pictures and we are right back there trying to be so grown up and here we are 44 and living in different worlds how did that happen? I will always love you. I know we will meet again. Untill then I am thankfull that you were and are part of who I am.

Happy Heavenly Birthday

With Love Doreen

Dear Dan,

When I read about your recent passing, I just couldn't believe it. You have always put smiles on others when they were down and out.Everybody enjoyed your sense of humor, especially when you took us on certain trips, such as Ben and Jerry's main ice cream factory. But most of all, you were a great dorm counselor, and a great person to talk to. You will be missed so very much.

Sincerely,

Danny,

If ever I wondered what the face of God looked like, you answered that question! If I ever wondered what the face of kindness and compassion looked like you showed me that in the beauty of your spirit and your smile. If ever I wondered what the meaning of goodness was, all I had to do was look at the gift you gave to all of humanity. You gave of yourself, over and over and over again. You held out the hand of friendship to everyone. You touched my life with your love and your generosity of spirit. I count myself blessed to have been in your life and to have experienced your love! I have been blessed to have seen the beauty of your soul in those eyes of blue! Good night sweet Prince!

Dan was like a brother to me. He was my daughter's uncle. I'll miss him washing dishes at Thanksgiving and sneaking a cigarette in the garage. He lit up the room when he came in. He was there for our family when our brother Mike died in '98. I love him and miss him!

I hope that Dan knew just how many friends he really had and how much all of us loved him. Dan was a brother that you always wanted. He was loving, caring, and willing to give a helping hand. Dan always had a way of making people feel welcomed. He always greeting you with his great big smile and warm embrace. He was the kindess person I have even known. I always looked forward to the next gathering knowing that Dan would be there. Life will never be the same without our dear friend although I know his spirit will always be with us. Until we meet again my friend, take care and keep a watch over all of us as you did when you were here on Earth.

The one thing always noticed when greeting Dan was his beautiful smile, yes, the one that takes his whole face into a swoop of sparkle and shine... just for having seen you. How can you not be amoung us, dear one? Don't worry about us, loving man, your spirit has taken itself home where all things are threaded with peace and all questions finally answered. We will miss you, yes, we will- so stay in touch. We will be looking up on those brightest starry nights.. waiting to see you soar among the heavenly souls who watch over us until we too, shall fly.

We are so saddened to hear of Danny's passing. Our time of knowing him began in Groton in 1974. Danny was one of our babysitters and our children remember him with smiles. We moved to Vermont and again, our paths crossed. Danny was a student at St. Michael's and we visited him in Winooski and he was at our home. Our memories are sweet. He was truly loved by all the Haneys and will be missed by many. We thank God to have been a small part of his life.
