Daniel Majchrzak Obituary
On July 17, 1992, our world was blessed with a beautiful boy full of light and love and with a heart of gold. Dan grew up in East Lyme with a passion for sports. He graduated ELHS in 2010. He was a gifted athlete who brought joy and exhilaration to those who watched him race around the court. D-Money could sink a 3-pointer like no other. Danny had a contagious smile and an amazing sense of humor with a knack for making everyone laugh. He was loyal, loving, sensitive and spiritual. He loved his family, friends, his girlfriend Nora, the Buffalo Bills and the Michigan Wolverines with all his heart. In recent years, he was especially devoted to fitness and body building. Dan could talk to anyone, from any walk of life, and bring out a smile. He was a light to us all and although he has been called home, he will continue to be a beacon from heaven, shining a light on the disease of addiction.
Addiction is a chronic brain disease that can be managed with treatment. It is not a moral failing or character flaw. It is a disease that is steeped with stigma, judgement and discrimination. It causes those suffering to isolate and withdraw from those they love often preventing them from seeking help. Death by overdose is the number one accidental killer of our young people. Every 4 minutes a parent loses a child to overdose. In these times, we cannot be passive. We must come together to end this epidemic. We ask, in Danny's memory, that you reach out to someone who may be struggling. Grab their hand. Don't let go. Never Give Up.
Danny is survived by his father Mark, his mother Chris, and his sisters, Sarah and Caroline. He will be missed by his Grandmother Patricia, Uncle Ed, Uncle Doug, Aunt Beth, Aunt Sara and his cousins, Hannah, Claire, Hope, Ali and Jon.
The family will receive relatives and friends from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A 3 p.m. prayer service will be conducted followed by a celebration of life gathering at 5 p.m. at Flanders Fish Market.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how difficult this is for you. Thank you for sharing your story. He was very good to my daughter in high school, when she was the manager for the basketball team. She is small, and was a freshman, but Danny watched out for her, and made sure no one picked on her, except him of course. Good naturedly, and my daughter basked in the attention.

R.I.P Danny i had the honor and privilege of meeting you... I remember we both got to Florida the same night and we were both so scared and disnt know what to expect i remember u holding a picture frame on your hands and i asked u who that beautiful woman was with u in the pic and you began telling me it was your girlfriend Nora Benitez.. I remember u telling me how much she meant to you and how much you loved her and how bad you wanted the gift of sobriety not only for yourself but for her as well... I still cant believe you are gone.. this disease does not discriminate and it sucks that you were taken so soon... But noe ypu are in heaven and dont have to live in this terrible world we are in fighting this horrible disease... RIP buddy....

I don't know your son personally but my son met Danny in Florida while in Rehab. He became great friends with him and always said what a good guy he was. He is in disbelief and heartbroken with his passing. I cry every time he tells me of a friend dying of an overdose because it could very well be him. Your son was very well liked by all the guys in the program and will be missed greatly by all of them. I am very sorry for your loss.
