David Barnes Obituary

Groton - David E. Barnes, 66, beloved husband, father, grandfather and a dear friend of many passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021. David was born to the late Charles and Jane (Higgins) Barnes of Groton. David was a 1972 graduate of Fitch High School, and grew up at his Greenway Road home in Groton.

David will be missed by many. David is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth; and his two daughters, whom he shared with Claire (Beauchamp) Potts, Annie Barnes and husband Raymond Shafer, Casey Sisalima and husband Luis Sisalima. He was a proud grandfather to Lily, Gavin, Lucas, Chase, Levi and Georgia. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Barnes. He leaves behind his sister in-law Sandy Barnes; sister Nancy Isif and husband Bob; a brother Keith Barnes and wife Melissa; as well as many nieces and nephews.

David will remembered fondly by so many whom he made lasting friendships with during his many years in the hospitality industry. Most notably during his years at Jamms Restaurant in Mystic. David's outgoing personality, wry sense of humor, and that he had the perfect joke for every occasion made him someone you wanted to be around and he will be truly missed.

David had a fondness for the good things in life, whether it be where to vacation, get the best pizza, fried chicken or cheeseburger grinder, he always had a recommendation or a recipe to share. He also loved nothing more than watching his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

As it is a truly difficult time for many, we greatly appreciate the love and support. Please hold the memories of DB close and we look forward to a time in the spring when a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Smilow Cancer Center.

Grew up with Dave,,It's been many years since I last ran into him, but every time i did, no matter how many years had passed, it was like high school good old times all over again. He was always friendly, smiling and WAY before there was something called a "meme" there was a David Barnes bad joke to make you laugh and smile...RIP my old friend....

So sad to hear of David's passing, but what a beautiful write-up of his life -brought a smile to my face as that's exactly how I remember him. I have so many excellent memories of gatherings with Charlie & Jane and my parents (Tom & Lucy Keogh) - those were great years. If there's a heaven, the Barnes and Keoghs are together again and smiling down at us. David was a good man - please accept my condolences on your loss, but remember David with smiles and love in your heart.

Dave I knew very well growing up, his families in Groton, always on Friday night at the Groton Block Parties, around town, at the schools always smiling, giving you his dividing attention.
He was also easy going, always have a kind things to say . His brother was a very close friend of my cousin, we became friend. Now that we all have grown up, senior citizen ,he still look the same have the youth look. If I have seen him early on we will be talking for hours, reflections from the past. May GOD BLESS him for meeting me, remembering him, touching my life with his friendship, may my pray and healing to the families bring comfort.

Dave and I grew up in the same neighborhood. I remember a really kind and polite kid who loved to laugh. Sadly we never crossed paths in the years gone by. Life has a way of taking us in different directions. Hoping he was happy and laughed along his path. My sympathies to his family. Rest in Peace David Barnes.

I met Dave when I first moved to Groton in the 2nd grade. He was one of my first school friends at Eastern Point. We ended up sharing a Day paper route during our Elementary school days. Didn’t see much of each other after high school. But I will always have fond memories of Dave and the whole Barnes Family. They were all a memorable part of growing up in Groton. I ask the Lord to comfort Dave’s family and friends during this dad time

God bless that man! I went K-12 with Dave and while many people move around and away, Dave stayed put and lived his life surrounded by people he loved and who loved him. A great smile, always ready to say hello, and give that great hearty laugh. You remember that even after half a century and across the miles. God rest his soul and give peace to Dave’s family and friends.

Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of our beloved Dave Barnes. I say "our" because he was such a beloved fellow bartender in the hospitality business. We always loved seeing Dave at Jamms and would only go there during his shifts. He had a wonderful way with people and a great sense of humor. He will certainly be missed.
