David Blodgett Obituary

Niantic - David Kingsley Blodgett departed this world with grace and serenity Sept. 11, 2025, at the age of 94.

David was born in Quincy, Mass., Sept. 18, 1930. He and his family moved to Niantic in 1937, where he was raised. After serving in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War, he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut. He later earned a master's degree in business administration from Pace University in New York City. His career brought him to Wallingford where he raised his family. Vacations were legendary camping trips throughout New England. He retired early, and returned to his beloved roots in Niantic.

David's greatest loves were his family, the outdoors and lifelong learning. A skilled handyman, he took pride in fixing and building things around the house. He also enjoyed lobstering, often sharing fresh catches with family and friends. His green thumb and love of gardening brought beauty and bounty to his home, where vibrant flower beds and lush fruit trees created a peaceful retreat. He generously shared the fruits of his labor with neighbors, leaving fresh vegetables on a roadside bench for all to enjoy.

David was predeceased by his loving wife Jane in 2019, after 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his five children: Susan Faulkner (Jerry), Elizabeth Buhler, Michael Blodgett, David Blodgett Jr. (Sarah) and William Blodgett; along with seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He will also be missed and fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

David has been an active resident at Bride Brook Health and Rehab facility since 2022. His family would like to thank the staff for their kind and professional care.

Calling hours, including a brief gathering to share memories, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic.

In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree or shrub in David's memory. Online condolences may be shared at www.neilanfuneralhome.com.
