David McDaniel Obituary

East Lyme - David W. McDaniel, 52, beloved father, husband, brother, and friend, passed away on Sept. 24, 2011.

He was born in Newport, Ore., on Feb. 19, 1959, the son of the late Neva LaRue and James L. McDaniel. Dave attended Davis High School in Yakima, Wash., played trumpet in the band and graduated in 1977. He drove a red Impala convertible for which he always had fond memories.

At Central Washington University, he met his future wife and they were wed on Sept. 4, 1982. The two moved to Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1983, where they lived for 23 years.

In 1988, Dave obtained his master's degree in human resources from Western Michigan University. In Michigan, Dave became a father of two who he coached in soccer and basketball. He also enjoyed going to movies and playing video games with his children. He enjoyed kayaking, cycling, and playing the guitar. His favorite holidays were Halloween, when he would organize parties for the kids and their friends, and Christmas, when he would brightly decorate the yard, a pleasure appreciated by many.

A dog lover during childhood, he was converted to being a cat person with the adoption of a medium hair kitten who regularly perched on his shoulders. The adoption of Noel was followed by the adoptions of Jazz and Kalypso.

The family moved to Connecticut in 2007, where Dave was employed as a consultant in the human resources field. He provided human resource and FMLA consulting and support to clients nationally. His clients included major hospitals/health systems, large hospitality and gaming operations/casinos, manufacturing and service industries across the country. Dave was a member of the allocation committee for the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and a regular Red Cross blood donor.

Dave's charm, wit, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dave is survived by his wife, Dawn M McDaniel; his son, Kelson R McDaniel; his daughter, Jessica K McDaniel; and his brother, James M. McDaniel of Washington state.

A private memorial service will be held.
