Debra Decker Obituary

Oakdale - Debra Anne (Shasha) Decker, 64, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home Friday, March 22, 2024, after a brave battle with breast cancer, completely surrounded by her loving family.

Debra was a beloved Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Niece, Aunt, Great Aunt, Cousin, Friend, and Neighbor. She took great pride in being a mom and grandmother, it was the absolute joy of her life. Debra was an extremely generous, loving, kind, and strong women with a heart of gold. She had the ability to make anybody feel welcome and comfortable and was known for the kind gestures and love she spread to those around her. She was one of the most compassionate, loving, and genuine people to walk this earth. Something she will always be remembered for is the many holiday traditions and unforgettable memories she created that her family will forever cherish and honor long after she is gone.

Debra is survived by so many whom absolutely love and adored her. Her parents, Barbara (Yuhas) Shasha and Michael Shasha; her children and their spouses, Ashley Shasha (Mark Emilyta), Audrey Scalaro (Jason) and Hunter Decker (Samantha); grandchildren, Makenzie Emilyta, Hailey, Carter, Grayson and Novali; sister Michele Lloyd; niece and nephew, Sarah and Jeff Lloyd (Meghann); great-nieces, Abrielle, Yalitza, Layla and Brynn; and very many cousins, aunts, uncles and great friends.

Her family would also like to extend a special thanks to both Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Backus Hospital, and CT Hospice for the care that they provided over the past few months. As well as her cancer team at Smilow, especially her Nurse Kelly at the Yale location who was very special to her. Thank you to all of those who have reached out and supported our family through this very difficult time.

She was an incredible person. She loved so deeply, and we were beyond lucky to have her. She will be forever missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I lived next to Deb for only a little bit, but she shared her heart and home to me often and felt akin to a second Mom. I have several fond memories thanks to Deb's kindness and warmth.

Sad to learn Debbie is gone. She will always be remembered as generous and kind. We always had such fun in the old days on Pequot Avenue at Thanksgiving and Christmas playing cards and walking the beach.
Sending all our love to everyone.
