A devoted son, he was born on Feb. 23, 1968, in Tuckahoe, N.Y. to Donald Fallon of Mystic and the late Susan M. (McClory) Fallon. Donald was raised in the Groton/Mystic area and was a 1986 graduate of Fitch Sr. High School. He graduated from the New York Maritime College with a Degree in Marine Engineering in 1991. He devoted his life to the Maritime Industry both at sea and ashore, most recently as a Harbor Tug Master in Bayonne, N.J.
Donald's abounding love of life was apparent to all who knew and loved him. His jocular sense of humor and rapier wit was and is a continuing source of joyful conversation among his family and his many friends. He was active in local softball leagues in New Jersey and was an avid fan of the New York Islanders and New England Patriots. But his single greatest joy came from being "Uncle Don-Don" to his three beautiful nieces, Devin, Avery and Maerin Lyon. He epitomized the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "...to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived".
He is survived by his father, Donald of Mystic; his sister, Kimberly Lyon and her husband, Matthew and their three previously mentioned daughters, all of Groton; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Donald was predeceased by his mother, Susan.
His family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Historic downtown Mystic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Pt. Rd., Groton. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. A reception celebrating Donald's life will follow at the Groton Lodge of Elks, 700 Shennecossett Rd., Groton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his mother's favorite charity, Navy and Marine Corps. Relief Society, 875 N. Randolph St., Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203-1977.

Dear Jocko and entire Fallon Family,
I’m an old shipmate of Jocko’s from the Skate back in the mid-1970’s, but from that “other end” o’ the boat...though we did have stern tubes, too, now I think of it! Though I can’t possibly understand the hole left behind...by a son...still I pray this helps some wee bit...to allow... enable…the grief! So truly sorry to hear about young Don, Jocko. Definitely keepin’ y’all in fond prayers that Christ hold you close in this trying time!
When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss…inconsolable…she was my mentor! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity with God a precious, cherished prize...but...in the interim, the answer lies below...and believe me...I understand the tears often are not nearly as casual as this implies!
SELFISH TEARS
(I eulogize my beloved mother - March, 1989)
Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!
We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!
So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!

My sincerest condolences...fondest, sympathetic prayers,

I am so sad to hear of Don's passing. We had so much fun in high school. Don was always a friend people could count on for comfort, support and many laughs! I always looked forward to seeing Don at the fireworks over the river. I can still hear him greeting me "Shar Babe" in his big happy voice and giving me the biggest hug ever! I will miss him greatly. Know that your family will be in my prayers. May the grace of God be with you during your time of sorrow.

Kim,
You have my heartfelt condolences for the loss of Donald. He used to keep me from falling asleep in band with his jokes. I would get in trouble from Mr. Parkinson for laughing.
Keep comfort in knowing he will be with your Mom watching over you and yours.
Very Fondly,
your friend Jen

My deepest sympathies to the entire Fallon family...Don was one of my many student athletres while at Fitch Sr. High...he always brought that "sense" of humor to every practice, match, meeting...even after graduation he would call me and we'd spend time discussing what life was all about...I do believe he met RWE in my English class!! I am deeply saddened by his passing, may his soul rest in peace. If there is anything that I can do, please feel free to call upon me.

To Don's Family,
My husband and I spent quite a bit of time with Don during our college years, and are deeply saddened to learn of his passing. There was NO ONE who could make us laugh like Don could. We always knew we would have a great time wherever Don was present. He was a wonderful guy, and we will remember him always. Our deepest sympathy to you during this most difficult time.

Donny was the coolest - I am still in shock!! He was one of the "stud muffins" in my wedding party. He was a friend of Shawn's who made me feel like I'd known him all my life. Our worlds will NEVER be the same without Donny. And I know our little pup, Teka, who was "HIS GIRL" will miss him terribly, too!!!
