Edward Scott Obituary

Waterford - Edward David Scott, owner of Neon Chicken restaurant, died peacefully at his home in Waterford, April 4, 2022 at the age of 70. "Dave" was born Feb. 19, 1952, in New London, to Edward and Lorraine (Smith) Scott. He was one of eight children; and is survived by his sisters: Linda Smith, Cynthia Ferrante, Karen Zeleznicky, Tracy Sawaryn and Amy Scott Wadsworth; as well as his brother Andy Scott. He is predeceased by his parents; and his brother Patrick Scott.

He was a graduate of Saint Bernard High School and Paul Smith College. He worked at Electric Boat for many years before owning Neon Chicken restaurant.

On July 30, 1983, he married the love of his life, Debbie (Teague), in Nantucket. Dave was a devoted father to Tricia Sanders, Stacey Engdall, David Scott and Jaime Lewis. He was also the most amazing Papa to Lexi Lewis, Hayden McClean, Jack Engdall, Sophie Engdall and Paisley Donovan. The most recent light in his life was his great-grandson Charlie Harding.

He fiercely loved his family, friends and his restaurant. If he wasn't cooking, you could find him talking to just about anyone. When he wasn't at Neon Chicken, he would be spending time with his family, enjoying NASCAR races, attending Patriots games or traveling in his RV. He had the uncanny ability to intimidate you, but still make you feel absolutely welcomed. Behind his serious face was the biggest heart. We are still in shock over this tremendous loss. Our world will never be the same.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, April 9, at Neilan Funeral Home 48 Grand Street, Niantic. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Dave to the American Heart Association. I went to PSC and was in a few classes together. He was a year ahead of me but we did hang in the same crowds. I was shocked to read in the Sequal of his passing. My condolences to his family.

Dave was my customer for many years but also my friend. We shared many common interests and I will miss the camaraderie. After many years we even found out we went to college together and graduated at the same time. We attended many Red Sox games together and I still remember the elation he had being there when they won the World Series. I am shocked and saddened as I will miss the plans we made for future activities together. I will miss you my friend and pray for your family. You were a good friend and a good man.

Cousin Dave and my dad worked together at EB. My dad died in 89 Dave helped my mom in so many ways. Came by to check on her. His sense of humor is what made him unique. My thoughts are with his family and siblings. You were a great man.

He was the best. such a kind caring man. Always there to make you laugh to make you feel comfortable and he sure did love his family, they meant everything to him. Especially the love of his life Debbie he loved her so much. God did the right thing by taking David in his sleep, because God knew that he would end up taking him kicking and screaming not to leave his Debbie. You´re in heaven now and you can watch over your blessed family until you see each other again I love you David you surely will be missed!!!

It was such a shock to read of Dave's passing. What a wonderful man, a gracious host, and such a good family man. As I know so many family members, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Debbie, the children and grandchildren, as well as his sisters. I'm sure Neon will continue on in the very capable hands of Tricia and Jaime, but there will be a sad void without Dave to chat with. Wishing you fond memories always.

There are many things and memories that I could ramble on for hours about how Mr. Scott made an immensely positive impact on my life. A father figure that I needed at a time in my life that didn´t have any direction, David Michael and I, I know drove him to the brink of madness sometimes. Often times I reminisce about that time in our lives and still to this day have a deep admiration, love, and respect for Mr.Scott and his family, always have a place in my heart for them. Thoughts and prayers to the Scott family, although sad, I´m trying to keep a smile on my face because I will always remember who Mr. Scott was to me. R.I.P. Mr.Scott and thank you for those times.

We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Just stopped to get our usual and saw the sign. It is so hard to believe when I was just in there the other day talking with him. If we all only knew what was in store we would take our day to day life so differently. There definitely will be a huge void at Neon Chicken. Thoughts & Prayers for his wife, girls, son, grandkids & great, siblings and extended family. Truly disheartened, Scott & Terri Loring
