Edward Wilson Obituary

Groton - Edward Wilson, 86, of Middletown, formerly of Groton, husband of Donna (Rajtar) Wilson and the late Virginia (Weaver) Wilson, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Hartford Hospital. He was born in White Plains, N.Y., the son of the late Lyle C. and Jeanette "Jean" (Konen) Wilson.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1974, mostly on nuclear submarines throughout the world. Later he was a machinist at Electric Boat and was a life member of the Groton Fire Department. Ed was an avid UConn Women's basketball fan. He was a philanthropist for many charities including, Wounded Warriors, the Groton Sub Museum, Veterans causes, and not to forget the school supplies to the children in Wesley School, who all knew "Pa-Pa Ed".

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marie Ann Wilson of Georgia; stepchildren, Robert Fletcher, and Christine Fletcher of Middletown; and his grandson, Ben Fletcher. He was predeceased by his son, James F. Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial, with military honors, will be at the State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Biega Funeral Home. Ed considered the Veterans interred at the State Veteran's Cemetery his "Heroes." It is altogether fitting and proper that he now rests among them. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Submarine Force Library & Museum in Groton or Wounded Warriors. Dear Donna & family,
I am saddened to hear the news of Ed´s passing. As I only met him a few times when he would come into my salon and get gift certificates for Donna he would sit in the chair and tell stories about his family and I could tell how much he loved all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

To Donna,
I was sorry to read about your husband's passing. I remember you well from Wilson High and although it has been several years, it is always sad to know a friend is going through a hard time. Thinking of you and your family.

I was saddened to hear of Ed´s passing. My condolences.
On his regular passes through the condo complex he would often stop to chat. Ed would ask about the Warm The Children program and often donate to help keep kids warm. He will be missed.

Dear Donna, family and friends of Ed,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Ed´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Razorback SS-394 and USS Bang SS-385.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
Donna and family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV).

Ed was my neighbor in Groton and a very dear friend. We shared many Naval stories as I too was a retired naval submarine. My deepest sympathy to a wonderful person.
