Frances Medeiros Obituary

Stonington - Frances T. (Maderia) Medeiros, 83, of Stonington, beloved wife of the late Manuel S. Medeiros, passed away peacefully July 27, 2007, surrounded by her family at home.

Born in Stonington on Jan. 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Mary Josephine (Costa) Maderia and lived in Stonington all of her life.

She married Manuel on Feb. 25, 1947, in Mystic, and they renewed their vows in Saint Mary's Church, Stonington in October of 1985.

She was formerly employed with the Connecticut Cabinet Company and most recently with Plax from which she retired after many years of dedicated service. She was a parishioner of Saint Mary Church, Stonington. Frances was most known in the community for her Portuguese sweet bread and her faithful commitment to the Blessing of the Fleet each and every year. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and her BONCOS group.

She leaves her son, Timothy Medeiros and his wife, Susan, of Pawcatuck; her two daughters, Marjorie Boozam and Brenda Watson, both of Westerly, and a step-daughter, Theresa Duque of California; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Medeiros of Montville; a brother, Manuel Maderia of Stonington; two sisters, Irene Andre of Mystic and Elizabeth Goodman of Arizona; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Madeira, a sister, Dorothy Faillace, and a step-son, William Medeiros.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, from the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, Stonington. Burial will follow at Stonington Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Blessing of the Fleet, c/o Saint Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington CT 06378.
