Franklin Davison Obituary

Groton – Franklin Harris Davison died Feb. 25, 2025 at the age of 91. Frank was born in Managua, Nicaragua Oct. 7, 1933, to Adelia Cerda and Edward Gates Davison, who was stationed in Nicaragua while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

As the Marine Corps' mission to reorganize Nicaragua's military force and monitor elections came to a close, the family moved to the Panama Canal Zone where his brother was born, and later to Jusepin, Venezuela, where Frank's stepfather was a contractor for the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. Frank's stepfather was Charles Phillips of Southampton, N.Y.

At the age of 12, Frank was sent to Niantic to live with his stepfather's brother's family while his parents remained in Venezuela. Frank graduated from Bulkeley High School in New London, and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War.

Frank studied engineering at the University of Connecticut and had a long career at General Dynamic's Electric Boat, retiring in the 1990s. Frank enjoyed golf, jogging, bowling and reading. He also enjoyed watching UConn basketball and Connecticut Sun basketball. At his peak, Frank was arguably the best ten-pin bowler in this part of the state. Frank also coached little league in Niantic and was a junior bowling coach in Groton.

Frank married Faith Damon and had three children. He later married Marie Zamzes, who survives him. Frank is also survived by his sons, Edward and Kenneth; and his stepdaughters, Rebecca (David) and Robin. His stepfather's nephew, Robert Phillips, also survives him; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his aunt and uncle who partly raised him, Robert and Sylvia Phillips; his brother Gordon; and his son Douglass.
