Frederick Block Obituary

Mystic - Frederick R. "UF" Block, 82, of Mystic, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Boston, Mass., the son of David R. Block. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Ann Block, who died in April of 2016, and to whom he was happily married for 48 years.

Frederick served in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years aboard multiple nuclear submarines, before retiring at the rank of chief petty officer. He continued his life of government service as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for another 24 years.

He is survived by his son, Fredric and his wife, Beth; his daughter, Michelle; and his grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, Daniel and Chad.

His family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family.

We spent many years together both on and off the Robt.E Lee 1961 1970. His family and mine were almost the same family. We watched all our kids grow up. He was a great shipmate. I hope we're all together some day in the Chief's Quarters again. Sailor, rest your oars...........
