Garrison Lane Obituary

Stonington - Garrison Fairfield Lane, born in Hartford, May 27, 1935, son of Dr. Donald Lane and Katherine Garrison, died in Stonington, Feb. 23, 2025. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Calvary Church in Stonington. A reception will follow.

Garrison grew up in Farmington and attended Tabor Academy, graduating in 1953. Garrison then attended Princeton University where he sang in the chapel choir, the Glee Club octet, The Nassoons, and the Triangle Club. After two years in the Army Medical Corps, he attended Columbia University, earning a Bachelor of Science, and the University of California Law School at Berkeley.

In 1960, Garrison moved to N.Y.C. and in 1961, married Marcia Huhn, of N.Y.C. and Stonington. In New York, he sang in annual productions of the Blue Hill Troupe and in many performances of The Nicholodeons, a close-harmony group. In 1968, the family moved to Greenwich and lived on Maher Avenue and then Bush Avenue. Garrison continued his business as a bond salesman in New York and continued his singing with The Greenwich Choral Society, the Windjammers, and the Off-Sounders. He was the male lead in the two fully staged benefits for the Greenwich Library, "Just for Kicks." Garrison was also a member of Screen Actors Guild and had roles in the movies Roll Over and Heartburn.

Mr. Lane retired in 2007, and after Mrs. Lane's death in 1999, he left Greenwich taking up residence in Stonington and N.Y.C. He continued to sing, all over the country, annually with an alumni group of Nassoons. Garrison was also a member of many hereditary organizations, including The Society of the Cincinnati. Additionally, he was a member of the Wadawanuck Club, The Belle Haven Club, and the New York Yacht Club. Garrison was an avid reader, loved the ocean, particularly sailing, and played tennis for the majority of his life.

Mr. Lane is predeceased by his loving wife, Marcia "Hi-Ho" Lane; and his son, Garrison Sewall Lane. He leaves behind two daughters, Marcia Lane Clair, and her husband Richard Clair of Southampton, N.Y.; and Madeleine Lane-Duigan, her husband, Shane Duigan; and their children, Brennan, Haze, and Griffin of Bridgton, Maine; and his companion of 15 years, Susan Parker of Madison and N.Y.C.
