George Stevens Obituary

Grorton - George P. Stevens, 86, of Groton passed away Sunday, July 11, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born in Voutsara, Greece, Oct. 24, 1934, the son of Peter and Vasiliki Stavropoulos. He was married to Friderika Monemvasitis Aug. 22, 1971, in New London. Friderika passed away Feb. 24, 2018.

George was a chef last working at the Whaler Restaurant in New London.

He is survived by his daughters, Vickie and Kathy Stevens of Groton; and his sister Ellen Papadopulos of Athens Greece.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, 200 Hempstead Street, New London. Interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. A viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Service, at St. Sophia.

Byles Memorial Home New London is in charge of arrangements.
