Gisela Peirce Obituary

Vero Beach, Fla. - A Celebration of Life will be held for Gisela Elizabeth (Ruhroth) Peirce at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Ledyard Center Congregational Church. Friends and family are welcome.

Gisela, 83, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in Vero Beach, Fla. Gisela was born on Aug. 14, 1929, in Elberfeld, Germany. She came to the United States in 1938 and moved to Ledyard in 1966. Here she raised her family and became a participant in her children's PTA's, served for many years as a room mother, St. David's Bridge Group, Welcome Wagon and the Highlands Community Association. She was an office manager for Drs. Kaplan & Colsen in Groton for 10 years.

Her husband of 60 years, Stephen D. Peirce is a retired teacher from Fitch Senior High School. He taught there for twenty five years retiring in 1990. Gisela and Stephen retired to Vero Beach Florida in 1990 where she became very active in church activities, their local hospital, and their Oak Park Terrace Condo Association.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen D. Peirce; her daughters, Heidi Rowley and Stephanie Zauner; and her son, Frederic Peirce; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Peirce, I was one of your students who graduated back in 1972. I remember you speaking so fondly of your wife. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. May you take comfort in the time you had together. You and your family will be in my prayers. Bless you all.
