Gwendolyn M. Berdeen

Ledyard - Gwendolyn M. (Hatch) Berdeen, 73, of Ledyard, died on April 12, 2013. Gwen was a woman of great faith. She was an active member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church where she volunteered leading the children's story and Women's Fellowship. After her retirement from the Women's Center, Gwen devoted her time to the church and her grandchildren.

Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Waneta Hatch, and her brother, Phillip Hatch.

Gwen is survived by her children, James Berdeen, Ph.D. of Bemidji, Minn., Jefferson and his wife, Marnie Berdeen, of Goffstown, N.H., Julie and her husband, Brian Martin, of Bozrah, Kenneth Berdeen of Ledyard; and her four grandchildren, Leah, Lindsey, Peter, and Sarah. In addition to her children, she is survived by her siblings, William and Carol Ford, Kenneth and Nancy Longfellow, and Richard and Lorna Hatch; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19, at the Old Mystic Baptist Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Gardiner, Maine.
