Henry Joseph "Hank" Rogers Jr.

Henry Rogers Obituary

East Lyme - Henry "Hank" Joseph Rogers Jr., passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Hartford, on July 11, 1943, Hank was 70 years old. Hank attended Hall High School in West Hartford. He graduated with a business degree from Bentley College in Boston and also graduated with a liberal arts degree from St. Francis College in Biddeford, Maine.

He married his high school sweetheart, Fi, shortly after his college graduation.

Hank lived in Niantic for many years raising his beautiful family. He ran a successful business, Rogers' Remodeling, and was an active member of Rotary. He and Fi relocated to the Palm Beach area of Florida in the 1990s and remained in Florida for almost 20 years. Hank returned to his old stomping grounds of Niantic to resume a very quiet, simple life.

Hank was predeceased by his wife, Dolores "Fi" Brown; his daughter, Britta Rogers Young of Palm Beach, Fla.; his sister, Rene Rogers Cavanaugh of Niantic; and his brother, Paul Rogers of Hartford.

He is survived by his son, John Henry Rogers of Haselbach, Austria and his wife, Doris, and two daughters, Megan and Josephine. They knew Hank as "Oppa". Britta's family in Palm Beach Gardens were also a big part of Hank's life. He was known as "Da" to granddaughters, Kelsey, Rachel, Emily and son-in-law, Vince. Hank is also survived by his sister, Susan Rogers Fatka and her husband, Paul, and daughters, Kasey and Krista of Niantic; brother, Chris Rogers and his wife, Nancy, and daughter, Anna, and son, Ben, of Hamden; brother-in-law, Bill, and niece and nephews, Maureen Cavanaugh Granado, Terry Cavanaugh, Chris Cavanaugh, Sean Cavanaugh.

Everyone knew Hank to have a quick wit and a story to match any topic at hand. He was loved and admired, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Agnes Church in Niantic. Burial at Union Cemetery in Niantic will follow the Mass.

Losing a family member is sad; losing a big brother is especially so. I met Hank over 40 years ago and saw him again only once after that meeting. Still, I knew him through accounts of him from Chris and know what a impact his loss has on those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Hank. Sympathies to family and friends.

Losing a beloved family member is sad; losing your big brother is especially so. I met Hank twice, both times briefly, but know of his life and what an impact his loss has had. Rest in peace, Hank. Deepest sympathy to all who knew and loved him.

My deepest condolences to the Rogers family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Hank in the 1980's while he was running Rogers' Remodeling.

He came into the lumberyard daily with a cheerful attitude and a smile on his face and amused us all with his colorful stories.

When he returned to the store a year or so ago, I was happy to see him. I recognized him immediately, even from a distance. He'd barely aged a day.

He still had that awesome, warm smile and his trademark sincere cheerfulness about him. We had a nice little chat catching up on new things and reminiscing about the old days.

Rest in Peace dear Hank.
You will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you.
