He was the husband of Polly Apgar Dixon and the father of Judith Myzie, both of whom predeceased him.
Herb was born and educated in Plainfield, N.J., and moved to Stonington in 2000 from Harwich, Mass. He was a lifetime employee of Western Electric in Kearney, N.J., prior to retirement in 1976. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing the shores of New Jersey and Cape Cod. Herb enjoyed baseball and earned the title of "Herlin Herbie" as a southpaw pitcher in the New Jersey county leagues as a young man.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Dixon and Bob O'Donoghue, of Stonington; a son-in-law, Raymond Myzie of Stowe, Vt.; two grandchildren, David Myzie of Richmond, Va., and Nancy Myzie Bryce, of Williamsburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Curtis, Caitlin, Meghan, Shannon and Aidan; and several nieces and nephews.
Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, is in charge of arrangements, which are private.
