Isabelle Lewis Obituary

Niantic - It is with profound sadness that the family of Isabelle Corey Lewis announces her passing. She went peacefully Sept. 19, 2023, at Bride Brook Health & Rehab Center in Niantic. Daughter of the late Albert Corey and Edna Gadbois Corey, Isabelle was born Aug. 18, 1941.

She was raised on Corey's Farm in Niantic where she and her sister Marion built the foundation of their love for gardening, horses and the outdoors. Isabelle graduated from New London High School in 1960, and she spent the rest of her life in New London County.

Isabelle had a heart of gold and enjoyed her work with early childhood education programs at Learn, Flanders School and Kiddie Campus. She had the admirable ability to treat every child with patience, love, kindness and respect. Isabelle was passionate about making sure each child she encountered felt valued for their unique gifts and abilities. In her years of service, she brought much tenderness and friendship to all the lives she touched. She was outgoing and could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She was always ready to offer a warm embrace, giving the kind of hug that said she cared deeply for others and their wellbeing.

Isabelle's love for her family and friends ran deep. She made sure to instill in her three children the value of hard work, something she learned growing up on Corey's Farm. She was also a devoted and valued member of her church, Groton Heights, where she took joy in spreading the love of God.

When she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found at the Niantic beaches, the Special Olympics, walking the Hamburg Fairgrounds, or at a family reunion.

Isabelle is survived by her children, David Lewis (Anne) and Tammy Lewis McIntyre; siblings, Marion Beebe and Howard Corey; grandchildren: Lauren, Liam, Ally, Matt, Jackie, Nikki (Joe), Tori, Alex and Karma; and extended family, Marge, Carleen and Georgia. In addition to her parents, Isabelle was predeceased by her son William "Billy" Lewis; siblings, Alfred Corey, Albert "Sonny" Corey and Ruth Corey.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at East Lyme Cemetery, Boston Post Road, East Lyme.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to those who played a vital role in Isabelle's life at Bride Brook Rehabilitation Center. Please visit www.neilanfuneralhome to leave an online condolence.

Isabelle was a very caring lady, always a hug and always made you feel special. I enjoyed the times when she would come to the lake when I was there and spend time with my Gramma, her Aunt Elsie. Oh the stories she would tell, as we sat eating popcorn by the fireplace, or eating cookies and drinking tea while we played cards. Even though it was many years ago, it seems like yesterday. She was always so proud of her children. Memories to hold on to.

Isabelle was such a sweet woman. Always there with a hug when I saw her. One memory I have is from my wedding day. She took photos at the ceremony and ran to a one hour development place. She had the first photos to show us at the reception just a short time later. Thoughts, prayers and hugs to her whole family.

I remember as the secretary of the Coreys of Ekonk Reunions. She was the friendly cousin to us all. She ,too was interested in gathering information on our ancestors. Most of all she was a friend.
