J. Roger Tamer

Gales Ferry - J. Roger Tamer, 89, of Gales Ferry, passed away Feb. 14, 2025, and is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born in Westerly, R.I., Roger spent the majority of his life in Gales Ferry, where he raised a family, built a business, and made a lasting impact on the community he loved.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Joyce Ann Tamer; his son Michael Tamer (Ditto Tamer); and his daughter Heather Rowley (Chris Rowley). He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Christine Tamer Bassham, Stephanie Worth, Kevin Tamer, Craig Rowley and Stacy Rowley; and six cherished great-grandchildren.

The son of Sam and Mary Tamer, Roger proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A dedicated and innovative professional, he held roles at Electric Boat, Thermos, United Nuclear, and Atlas Systems before co-founding Daticon Systems with his business partner Doug Barrett. Under Roger's leadership, he earned recognition as Connecticut's Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Daticon was ranked number 35 on the Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Companies.

Roger was a devoted family man, a passionate supporter of Ledyard youth sports as a coach and dad, and a spirited member of the United Methodist Church, where he took center stage in several plays, playing the lead in "The Music Man." He was an avid golfer, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and someone whose generosity, support and warmth will be remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the United Methodist Church in Gales Ferry. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ledyard High School Sports Fund in Roger's memory.
