Salem - Jack Lee Scaduto, 85, of Salem, and spouse of the late Jean Ann (Sforza) Scaduto, passed away peacefully Sept. 24, 2025, after a 20-year fight with prostate cancer and leukemia. Born in New Castle, Pa., Sept. 21, 1940, he was the son of the late Jack and Josephine (Guvlitto) Scaduto. Jack married Jean Ann, the love of his life, April 23, 1960.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Jack first enlisted in 1963. He attended Nuclear Power School and then served on the second nuclear submarine, the Sea Wolf. After an honorable discharge in 1969, Jack served as a chief petty officer in the Navy Reserves while attending the University of Connecticut, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science. Upon graduation, Jack began work at Electric Boat as a nuclear engineer and worked his way up to a nuclear construction engineering supervisor, until his retirement after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
In his early years at Electric Boat, Jack developed a passion for sailing while watching sailboats race in the Thames River. After owning several sailboats, Jack eventually became a skilled and competitive racer, known in the Southeast Connecticut area, along with his son Scott, as the Scaduto Brothers. A longtime member of the Thames Yacht Club, he served as commodore for several years and on numerous committees.
Jack loved the beauty of nature, enjoying many family trips in the winter months skiing in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire, and in the warmer months, hiking and sailing. In his later years Jack volunteered with the Salem Land Trust. After the passing of Jean Ann, Jack cherished the countless visits from friends and neighbors whose generosity was beyond measure, and the many neighbor parties he hosted.
Jack is survived by his daughter Sr. Cecelia Marie, Scaduto, ASCJ (Linda) of New Britain; his son Scott Scaduto of Escondido, Calif.; sister-in-law Sr. Ann Marie Sforza, ASCJ of Hamden; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved Muffy, the Maine Coon. Jack was also predeceased by his son Jeffery Scaduto.
