James Kowalewski Obituary

Groton - James Charles Kowalewski ("Jamie" to his family or "Ski" for his military brothers), passed away in his home Nov. 26, 2022. Jamie was born Nov. 14, 1956, in New Britain, to Audrey (Oakley) Felice and Hilary Kowalewski and was a longtime resident of Groton.

Jamie graduated from Bristol Eastern High School in 1976. While there, he was an active member of the theater, a passion he pursued into his adult life, performing in several local theater groups over the years.

He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1983. During his military service he met many wonderful men and women who inspired him throughout his life. He was awarded several medals during his 20 plus years of service, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He retired from Electric Boat after more than 30 years as an engraver.

Jamie lived a quiet life, but he had many passions - music, theater, performance and comedy are just a few. He always had a way to make you smile, and his Rodney Dangerfield "no respect" impersonations were always a crowd favorite!

Jamie is survived by his father, Hilary Kowalewski of East Lyme; his mother, Audrey (Oakley) Felice of Bristol; his brothers, Thomas Kowalewski and Joseph Kowaleski; his sisters, Tracey Belcak, Teri Artino, and Hilarie Leone; his 11 nieces and nephews; and many more cousins, family, and friends who he positively impacted along the way. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Linda Kowaleski.

The family will receive visitors and hold a service from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. The family will have a burial the following day at 10 a.m. Dec. 12, at Comstock Cemetery, Montville.

As cousins growing up, Jamie and his brother, Tommy and my brothers and I spent lots of time together because our mothers were very close and we lived near each other. I remember when Jamie discovered his interest in the theater, it was an exciting new endeavor for him. He started by acting in plays at Bristol Eastern High School, where I had also attended a few years earlier. His experience performing and also learning about all the other jobs involved in putting on productions had opened him up to a fascinating world that gave him a new-found joy in life. He had a natural talent for acting and comedy. He was also such a caring person. Love him forever, rest in peace, Jamie.❤

Oh Jamie, you are going to be missed so much. You were always so nice to talk to and be with. Now of course I wish I had insisted we spend more time. Gone too soon, Jamie. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, amen.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I never new Jamie but he sounds like a good guy. So sorry I never had the chance. May he rest in peace. With love.
