Joan Adams Obituary

Uncasville - Joan H. Adams, 79, of Uncasville, beloved wife of John D. Adams, Sr. The couple passed away together as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident on Jan. 12, 2019.

Joan was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y. on Dec. 2, 1939. She was a daughter of the late Adolph and Irene Mack. Joan married John Adams on July 20, 1985. They lived in Ledyard, Lebanon and most recently retired to the Uncasville section of Montville. Joan was a very artistic and talented crafter. She enjoyed drawing and painting and was exceptionally talented with rug hooking. She and John shared a passion of building, designing and decorating their homes, both inside and out.

She is predeceased by three cocker spaniels who she always enjoyed spending time with while teaching herself "show ring" type grooming with them. Also, Joan is leaving behind her beloved cat, Jake. She loved her pets and all animals in general. Most importantly, Joan was a homemaker who was loving and devoted to her family. She is forever remembered by her daughter, Janet Mahlke of Deatsville, Ala., and son, Thomas Carr of Killingworth; step children, Bruce (Kirsten) Adams of East Hampton, Bethany (Eric) Fortier of Glastonbury; a sister, Carol Shepherd and a nephew Jason Sigmund, both of Mulberry, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jonathon and Alex Mahlke of Montgomery, Ala. and Khris, Brian and Justin Carr; five step grandchildren, Ryan (Elizabeth) Adams, Kyle Adams (Bekah) , Grace Adams, Raymond Stebbins, Tyler Stebbins (Alex Maciolek); two great-grandchildren, Alesana and Scarlett Mahlke of Montgomery, Ala. and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18 at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home at 167 Old Hartford Road in Colchester. Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a chapel service. Burial will follow at the New Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon. Donations in her memory may be made to the ASPCA at secure.aspca.org/donate/memorial.

To the family and friends, my heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring. And may your precious memories of your dear loved one fill your heart with love and comfort today, tomorrow and always.
