Joe Farrell Obituary

Groton - Joe "Joey" Farrell Jr. died peacefully at home March 6, 2024, surrounded by family.

Anyone who knew Joey loved him. He always had a smile on his face and was well known for his hugging. He worked at Electric Boat for over 20 years, retiring as a test engineer specialist. He made many lasting friendships at work. Anyone who knew Joey knew that he loved the casino. His favorite place was Las Vegas. Joey also loved playing softball with his friends and went on many tournaments throughout the United States. Joey was great with the computer and WiFi, constantly coming up to his parents' house to "fix" something that his mother had messed up. Nothing meant more to Joey than his family, visiting his parents and "Aunt Alice" weekly.

Joey leaves behind his father Joe Farrell Sr.; and mother Carol Farrell; brother Jim Farrell and wife Lori; a niece, Cindy; and nephew Jimmy. Throughout his last days, his godmother Alice cared for him. She was definitely an angel in disguise. Joey was also cared for by Hospice, especially by his aide "Jim" and nurse Carlie.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon March 16, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Avenue, Norwich.

Joey will always be remembered by me and my sisters, for fun and laughter. He was a permanent fixture at our house on North Street in the early 80's. We laughed and watched videos, movies, played games and listened to music. We would go to Joey's house where he would put his giant stern speakers in his bedroom window and blast in into the yard. We all went to Walt Disney World together and had the most amazing trip. Just yesterday I found a photo of the two of us, at the Disney park.

Carol (and family) I am so sorry for your loss. Joey's presence is sure to be missed by many. He was a kind and amazing friend to all who knew him.

My first memory of Joey, before joining him of the softball field was having him as a customer when I was in my early days of bartending. Shortly thereafter we spent lots of time on the field winning multiple national tournament trophies including Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Joey could always be counted on for a big smile, bear hug, and clutch hit for his team. He also took fantastic photos throughout the years for our softball league. Above all, Joey was a kind caring soul and a great friend, as well as a fellow New England Patriots fan. Love you bud, rest in eternal glory!

My first and earliest memories in life are of Jimmy & Joey Carol & Joe. It was around 1973 when I was in kindergarten with Jimmy. I grew up in the neighborhood on Jennings Street. There isn't enough space here for me to tell you everything that I remember about my childhood with the Farrel family. I would sure love to go back in time and ride big wheels and bikes with those guys and play wiffle ball and swim in the pool and hang out at his grandmother's house like we did on a daily basis. Those are just a few of the fondest memories that I will always have and cherish. Jimmy Carol & Joe you are in my thoughts and prayers. RIP Joey.
