John Fells Obituary
John served his family, his church and his country faithfully with love and devotion. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, spent five years in the U.S. Merchant Marines, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served during the Korean War. He was also stationed in Japan, and Aviano, Italy, where he met the love of his life, Marianna. They were married Dec. 30, 1961. He earned numerous honors and awards before retiring in 1968.
John is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Donald Fells, Norman Fells and Ertman Fells; sisters, Elizabeth Fells and Catherine Fells; niece Pamela Fells; and nephew Leonard Fells. John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Marianna (Conzato); two daughters, Maria Lavin and husband Neil of Ledyard, and Catherine Conover and husband Kevin of Oakdale; and son Anthony Fells and his wife Kimberly of Preston. He is also survived by seven grandchildren who adored him: Colleen, Michela (Keith), and Julia Lavin, Jonathan and Benjamin Conover, and Shelby and Matthew Fells. He is also survived by nieces, Frederica, Patricia and Alice; and grandnieces, Juwana and Racina.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Woyasz and Son, 141 Central Avenue, Norwich. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at St Mary's Church, 70 Central Avenue, Norwich. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Fells was quite a man- an American hero and a loving family man.
I enjoyed all my encounters with him when he visited the public schools as a veteran and a father
of my 3rd grade student Anthony, many years ago.
He will be missed by many including other close family members that were also very special!
