John Trevor Obituary

Paul Smiths, N.Y. - John B. Trevor Jr., 97, of Palm Beach, Fla., died peacefully on August 27, 2006 in Paul Smiths, N.Y.

He was the beloved father of John B. Trevor III, Alexander B. Trevor and Emily Trevor Van Vleck; grandfather of John B. Trevor IV, Phyllis T. Higgerson, Evelyn T. Holm, Sophia T. Girard, Tielman T. Van Vleck, Irene T. Brooke, Anne W. Roebel, Harriet E. Van Vleck, and Alexander J. B. Trevor; and great-grandfather of John 5th, Eliza, Sophia, Serena, Ann, Sarah, Benjamin, Margaret, Susanna, and Caroline; and step-grandfather of John, Emily and Christopher Cummin.

He was a past president of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, an honorary trustee of the Trudeau Institute, and a past trustee of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of New York. At the time of his death he was the oldest member of the Union Club of New York City.

The author of several books and technical articles, he co-authored "Wind and Tide in Yacht Racing." He was a senior physicist at the Naval Research Laboratories during World War II, where he received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in October 1945. He earned three degrees, A.B., B.S., and E.E. from Columbia University.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 3rd, at St. Johns in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, Paul Smiths, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trudeau Institute, Saranac Lake, N.Y.

Hi, its Stephanee Lawrence. Mr Trevor was very kind to me when I visited from Arizona. I remember playing bridge,tennis and fly fishing with him.
