John Walsh Obituary

Pawcatuck - John "Jack" P. Walsh, beloved husband of Carol (Lazarchick) Walsh, of William St., Pawcatuck, passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at the age of 81.

Born in Norwood, Mass., he was the son of the late Lawrence and Anna Walsh, formerly of Canton, Maine.

Jack was a 35-year veteran of the Stonington School System, having been a teacher and principal for West Broad Street Elementary and Pawcatuck Middle School from 1958-1993. He was also a member of the Pawcatuck Fire District, holding the position of treasurer for many years. After retiring from the school system, Jack dedicated six years to serving the residents of Stonington as a member of the Board of Finance. Jack also spent countless hours with the Pawcatuck Little League as a Coach, member of the Board of Directors, equipment manager and "Painter Supreme." He was a communicant of St. Michael Church.

Jack was also very proud of his Irish heritage and spent years working on his family tree and corresponding and visiting with newfound cousins in Ireland.

Besides his wife, he will be sadly missed by his children, Melinda (Rick) Dubois of Oakland, Maine, John (Maura) Walsh of Needham, Mass., and Lawrence Walsh of Pawcatuck. He was the loving grandfather of Benjamin Dubois, Samuel Dubois, John Walsh, Keelin Walsh, Brendan Walsh, Kerry Walsh, and Lawrence Walsh. He also leaves his brother, William Walsh of Canton, Maine, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Walsh, and sister, Ann (Walsh) Barrett.

Visiting hours are omitted. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary's Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck.

My son, John Robinson, just left here. He stops to visit on his lunch break from work at Davis Standard on Tuesdays.
I mentioned to him that Jack Walsh had passed away. He didn;t know it and felt really bad that he didn't go to the funeral mass.
He lives in Madison, Ct and doesn't always get our local news.
Now I am feeling bad that I didn't tell him because he and young John were good friends and he would have attended the service.
Our sympathy to all of the Walsh
family.

To the Walsh Family,

Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

Jack was "extremely" special to me. He along with Maddy Jones were "guiding angels" that greatly changed my life in elementary school and beyond. With unmatched patience and a penchant of skills to teach "in the moment" I learned an immense amount of skills that guided me through my athletic and academic life. Presently retired, there teachings lead me to pursue careers in education and the military.

To this day, I vividly remember his in-depth explanation of distant galaxies and how to calculate lights years into ways that were unstandable to me. Moreover, he had me hooked when he started to talk about football and various other sports. When he said he played football my eyes lit up like a christmas tree and mind began to operate at "warp factor 100".

Jack inspired me to be the best I can be and use all god give talents to the best of my abilities. He also knew my love for music inspired by both my mother and father. Hence, songs like "I hope you dance-Lee ann Womack" to "Remember when-Alan Jackson" to "Teach your children- Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young" to "Landslide-Fleetwood Mac" to "My old man-Zac Brown Band" to numerous Earth,Wind and Fire songs . . . there lessons in life, taught to me in elementary school, gave me the foundation to love and enjoy "ALL" of what life had to offer.

Like the palm of my hand, I will hold the lessons of life you taught me near and dear . . . and do so for eternity. From one educator to another "thank you" . . . I'll continue to pay it forward.

Thoughts and prayers,

Kevin Kelliher
