Jonathan Walz Obituary
He grew up in Groton, and graduated from R.E. Fitch Senior High in 1971. He then attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1975, with BA degrees in economics and political science and in 1976, with an MA degree in international economics. Jon began a career in real estate at Old Stone Bank in Providence, R.I. in 1977. He moved to San Diego, with his family in 1986, and worked as a real estate specialist for John Burnham, Cushman & Wakefield, and Grubb & Ellis, retiring in 2015. He also served as a board member of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association since 1987.
Jon was an expert skier and worked as a ski instructor in New Hampshire during his college and post-college days. He was a longtime fan of the Grateful Dead and enjoyed golf, traveling the globe, attending San Diego Padres games, and an afternoon Negroni (or two). His greatest enjoyment, however, was the time spent with his grandchildren.
Jon is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maribeth Galuska Walz; his daughters, Becky (Chris) Young and Jessica (Dan) Dorsey; and grandchildren, Nolan and Ryder Young and Lilly and Hudson Dorsey. He also leaves behind two brothers, J. Andrew Walz III (Sheila) and James A. Walz (Denice); along with many nieces and nephews.
