Julius Praglin Obituary

Waterloo, Iowa - Julius Praglin, 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Julius was born June 12, 1927, in Boston, Mass., the son of Aaron and Helen (Rosenberg) Praglin. He married Rosabelle Wolfson June 12, 1949, in Worcester, Mass. Julius served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is an alumnus of Boston Latin School, Clark University (B.A.) and the University of Illinois (M.S., Ph.D.). He was the author and inventor of numerous patents. He was an electrophysiologist and instructor in physiology and ophthalmology at Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland and later was the director of research and development at Pfizer Diagnostics Division in Groton.

Survivors include his wife, Rosabelle Praglin of Waterloo; three daughters, Judith (Rick) Robbins of North Haven, Laura (Kenneth Atkinson) Praglin of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Martha (Michael) Smith of Durham; and three grandchildren.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Northern Iowa Social Work Department for student scholarships or the donor's choice.
