June Keeney Obituary

Waterford - June (Miller) Keeney, 85, of Quaker Hill, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

June was born on July 16, 1927, in New London. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mazie (Tooker) Miller.

June was an avid beachgoer and enjoyed her summers along Long Island Sound. In her early years, she spent time at Ocean Beach, which is where she met her husband. In her later years, she could be found with a circle of friends along the beaches of Pequot Avenue. She especially loved spending time at Osprey Beach with Gordy and her granddaughters.

June worked at SNET in New London for many years and loved working with the public. One of her favorite past times was also talking on the phone with family and friends. With a generous heart, June was known to often give to many local charities and was always looking to help those in need.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Hutchins of Salem and her husband, Gary; a son, Brett Keeney; her granddaughters, Andrea Keeney Paxton of Quaker Hill and her husband, William, Shelly Hutchins of Lisbon and her fiancé, Robert Richman, and Ashley (Hutchins) Drago and her husband, Russell, of Niantic. She has two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ethan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Miller of Waterford; and her niece, Leah Osowski; and nephew, Robert Miller.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon Chapin Keeney. They were married in New London on Feb. 9, 1948. She is also predeceased by her brother, Lewis E. Miller.

A special thank you to all the wonderful people that helped out during the last years of her life.

A private service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9, to celebrate her life.
