June Squadrito Obituary

Mystic - June C. Squadrito passed away early Thursday morning, May 8, 2008, at the Kindred Crossing Care Facility in New London, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Born in Stafford Springs in 1926, the daughter of Ivano and Mary Cini, June grew up in Mystic with her brothers, Hector, Ezio, and Attilio, who predeceased her. After attending New London School of Hairdressing and working at Bostich, June spent many happy years in the Groton public school system, working at both Carl C. Cutler Middle School and Robert E. Fitch Senior High. She then went on to work at the Town of Groton town clerk's office from 1983 until her retirement in 1993.

She was married to Robert V. Squadrito for 26 years; he predeceased her.

June leaves five adoring daughters and their spouses, missing her are Debra and Dale Peiffer of Newington, Lauren and Wesley Davis of Palm Coast, Fla., Roberta and Walter Newton of Ledyard, Jana and Herb Wagner of Canterbury, and Tina McLauglin of Mystic. Also missing her are grandchildren, Noelle and Holly Maynard, Rebecca and Rachel Rippey, Lazaryn and Maxx McLaughlin, Katie and Christa Allen, and great-grandchildren, Gregory and Shyla.

She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Kenneth McLaughlin.

June loved music and was a talented pianist. While she loved animals of all kinds, she was particularly devoted to her beloved kitties and was forever finding homes for those in need. She was an avid fan of the New York Times crossword puzzle and the most challenging of jigsaw puzzles. She felt most at home surrounded by the beauty of the woods and pond in her own backyard.

Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Kindred Crossing where June received incredibly loving and compassionate care during her many years as a resident of the Alzheimer's unit. Their extraordinary efforts not only gave comfort to June but peace of mind to her family. Both the staff and residents of the unit will be fondly remembered.

Arrangements are private, and the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the All Friends Animal Hospital Angel Fund, 420 New London Turnpike, Norwich CT 06360, or an animal welfare charity of the donor's choice.

To all the Squadritos: My deepest sympathies on the loss of your mom. She was a dear, as all of us Fitchies knew so well. And I had the added benefits of tasting a lot of her great cooking back in the 'good old days!' God's peace be with you all.

To the Squadrito family-
I have fond memories of attending Mystic Academy and Fitch High with June. We enjoyed good times with her close friend and my coousin Joe Riedel, She impressed all of us by playing the piano by ear--we would dance in her large living room on Saturday night to music of the "Hit Parade" It is sad that her last years were as they were--she had been such an intelligent and talented woman.
Please accept my sympathy in your loss--Winnie(Schaefer)Glessner.

Tina, Laz and Maxx, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know right now nothing said will take away the pain you are feeling. It will lessen with time, but her memory will always be with you in your heart. I remember her from high school and she kept me from getting into more trouble than I did just by talking to me.
I will be here if you ever need anything, all you have to do is call. My love to all.

Dear Squadrito Family,
I am an alumni of Fitch Senior, (1972). Ms. Squadrito was loved by me. I remember Ms. Squadrito with fond memories. She always had a smile and was willing to assist you with whatever you needed when you'd go into the office. She will be missed, but never forgotten. I wanted to let you know it shocked me to see this news, but rest assure and know that she will receive the promise of the resurrection as stated by Jehovah God in John 5:28 - 29.
