Justin Marquis Obituary

Mandeville, La. - Justin Paul Marquis (April 19, 1985-Aug. 30, 2025) was unapologetically himself - "The Goth Prince" of high school.

From the moment you met him, you knew who he was, because he made sure of it! One of his most treasured values was shock value. He had meme wars . . . trying to find the worst image to send. He was always trying to create the best dark comedy. If he could catch you off-guard, make you laugh, or crack a smile, you know he had done his favorite thing.

Justin didn't accumulate wealth or power, no matter how much he wanted to; but rather, he collected moments of joy in any and every person who entered his life.

He believed that serious conversations were better held in a goofy voice. Easing the tension, and creating comfortable moments for everyone around him. He was one-of-a-kind. He was the person to make you feel safe when you were alone. He was the best thing to happen in this world, and as much as he would deny any of these facts about him, he was the glue that made this world bearable.

He was a risk taker; a father who put his kid first, a friend even when he felt he didn't have any, and a person like no other! There is no one way to describe Justin. He was all these things and more. And I give credit to Andrew and Liz, and everyone else who helped me find the right words to put here for this! And Aimee: "He was perfectly characterized!"

He was authentic to himself, no matter what. He was all these things and more that words cannot even begin to describe. He demeaned himself, but he was a wonderful person with ambitions and thoughts for the future that he never had a chance to see.

We all need to live like he did. Be humble to our insecurities, be grateful to those around us, take the risk, be authentic to yourself, and be thankful for what we have while we have them.

So as much as he would hate it, let's get some "#jutjuttakeoff" on Facebook, with photos, so he can travel the world. And wherever you are, celebrate him with a party or a toast. He wouldn't want anything planned in his honor, just a "I'm here and I'm thinking of you" party. Let it be wherever you feel the need, and let us share it too! He would have wanted it that way! No time taken out of your day-to-day life, just when the need overcomes you. Make it special, make it full of memories and good times.

Don't make him out to be who he portrayed himself to be. Let's celebrate the person he proved himself to be. The beyond intelligent, witty goofball he never admitted to. Let us remember the best parts of him! He will always be those to all of us! And he will forever be that to whoever knew him fully! Forever in our hearts, and always being our poltergeist! Living forever in everything we do.

Justin isn't someone you forget, even meeting him once; so you best believe he's moving our kitchen tables one inch to the left, or dropping our glove compartments randomly at all times of the day. You will see him in little things, and hear him in songs he hated, just watch and listen! He will always be here . . . forever!
