Kathleen "Kate" Foley

Ledyard - Kathleen "Kate" Foley, 75, of Ledyard, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Fairview in Groton where she had been a recent resident.

Born and raised in Norwich, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Florence (Cunningham) Foley. Kate graduated from NFA in 1967. Upon finishing high school, she attended Newton College of the Sacred Heart/Boston College in Newton, Mass., receiving her bachelor's degree and eventually earning her master's degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling from Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. She returned to school for a second master's degree in industrial relations from the University of New Haven which she received in 1985.

Following her graduation from college, Kate began her employment and spent her entire career of 38 years with the State of Connecticut, Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, up until her retirement.

Kate loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed dining out at local restaurants, getting lost in a good book, and traveling with her husband David and family. Sundays were often spent with David, cheering on the Boston Celtics, the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Also a devoted UConn basketball fan, Kate rarely missed a game. She had a love for words and delighted in tackling the New York Times crossword puzzles.

Kate will be deeply missed by her loving family, her many cherished friends, and her beloved cat, Maisie. She is survived by her husband David Wright; her sister Elizabeth Gallagher and her husband Peter; her brother Thomas Foley and his wife Ann Dunn-Foley; her two nieces, Ellen Gallagher and Theresa Foley and her husband Craig Crossland and their son Patrick; her nephew Michael "Mickey" Foley; and her goddaughter Sarah Lombardo.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday morning, April 24, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A service will follow the calling hour at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Her burial will follow the service at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
