Kenneth Rowland Obituary
Ken was a loving brother, stepfather, grandfather and uncle who cared deeply about his family. He leaves behind his sister Kathleen Warner; children, Tammy Phillips and Melanie (Randall) Bock; grandchildren, Shane (Nicole) Phillips, Corey Gladue and Tessa and Emma Bock; as well as his great-grandchildren, Caleb and Alanna Phillips. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was predeceased in life by his parents, George and Bernadine; as well as his brother and sister, George and Ruth.
Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served proudly from 1958 to 1962. Kenneth was a hard working man who was a member and local officer of the local 1122 Painter's Union since 1984. He became a trustee of the union in 2016. He made many long-lasting friendships during his working years that continued after his retirement.
After his retirement, there was nothing more that Ken loved than watching his MLB baseball games, NFL football games, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and having a good cook out on the weekends. Spending quality time with his family was something that he always looked forward to. He loved his family tremendously and spending time them. He never missed a birthday, holiday or family gathering.
Our family wants to express our deepest gratitude to Duffy Havens, R.N. and Hartford Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care they gave him during his most difficult times. Ken was able to stay in his home and pass with his family by his side - a wish that he always had.
Ken, Dad, Grandpa, Pa, Uncle, will be missed by all who loved him, but we are comforted knowing he is no longer suffering and is at peace. In lieu o flowers, please make a donation of your choice in Ken's memory.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Smith Lake Cemetery, Groton.

Kenny and I were one year apart in school, and I played at his house often. Fond memories of Kenny, Georgie (his brother), Ruthie (his sister) and Kathy. Would love to hear from Kathy (my email is [email protected]). Kenny's Mom and My Mom were sisters.
