Leland Miller Obituary

Ledyard - Leland "Bo" Miller, 70, of Ledyard, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at Apple Rehab in Mystic. He was the beloved husband of Colleen (Flynn) Miller. Born in Rockland, Maine, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Miller and stepfather, Bowdoin Miller.

He moved to Connecticut at age 11, and graduated from Fitch Senior High School in 1970. He later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University. Bo began his career with General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in 1972. He held various positions within EB and made countless friends over the course of 43 years. He retired in March of 2015.

In 1974, he married his soulmate, Colleen Flynn. They eventually welcomed a daughter and a son to complete their happy family. Bo was very hard working and was never one to idly sit by. He could often be found working on various projects in the house and yard, or just tinkering in his garage; and he had a knack for being able to fix anything. He had a passion for classic cars, especially Mustangs. In 1999, he founded the Southeastern Connecticut Mustang Club, which is still going strong. He enjoyed the opportunity to gather with other Mustang enthusiasts, and to show his 1970 Mach 1.

Traveling with Colleen and cherished friends was a big part of his life. They went on numerous trips both in and out of the United States. It seemed each trip had its own unique experiences, adventures and laughs worth continual nostalgic reminiscence. Other favorite pastimes included sailing, fishing and clamming with dear friends. Bo was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and often engaged in numerous banter with his Red Sox-loving friends. He also enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and UConn men's basketball. He was an even bigger fan of watching his son and grandson play hockey, baseball and football, and his granddaughter playing basketball and lacrosse. Above all else, Bo treasured his family and friends. He loved to celebrate holidays, gather together for picnics and parties, laugh, dance, eat, drink and make memories. He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, happy spirit and contagious laugh.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Christine Miller and son-in-law, Kevin Fisher of Ledyard, and David "Duke" Miller and daughter-in-law Jennette of Montville; and siblings, Gerald Miller of Maine, and Opal Janczynski of Rhode Island. Bo also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Giana and Blake; and several nieces and nephews. Holding an extra special place in his heart are nieces, Darlene Janczynski and Susan Loginidis; as well as nephew, Gary Janczynski. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Deborah Monahan and brother-in-law, Jerry Monahan. In addition to his much-adored family, he leaves behind a multitude of treasured friends. He is predeceased by siblings, Richard Miller and Marilyn Mullis; and great-niece, Lisa Butler.

His family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. His burial will follow at Avery Stoddard Cemetery, 202 Stoddards Wharf Road, Gales Ferry. Donations in his memory can be made to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 412901, Boston, MA 02241-2901 or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill, SW Lilburn, GA 30047.

So sorry to hear of Bo's passing. One of my fondest memories of Bo was a spur of the moment trip he an I and Greg Aquino took to Rockland. I did not know he was actually from there.
Bo was a great guy and a great friend. We had many conversations at EB.
I hope their fond memories will help his family get through these sad times.

Colleen & family,
Bo was the complete deal. He was a great husband and dad, but could play baseball & a mean broom guitar in the living room boys band! I have many funny & fond memories of our youth. May he rest in peace.
Love,
Marcia
