Leon Lampert

New London - Leon Lampert of New London passed away peacefully at the age of 96, Sept. 9, 2025. Born Sept. 25, 1928 to Sol and Lilly Lampert in The Bronx, N.Y., Leon weathered the Great Depression with a formidable onslaught of period humor that he has since bequeathed to his son, who is writing this article and thinks dad would appreciate this briefly self-indulgent artistic license.

After graduating high school from Stuyvesant, he earned his bachelor's in electrical engineering from CCNY and two master's from NYU in engineering and mathematics. He worked at the Brooklyn Naval Yard while caring for his ailing mother following his father's passing. It was then that he met and married the love of his life, Iris. Following his mother's passing, they moved to New London in 1973, where he worked at the Underwater Sound Lab, retiring after 35 years of government service, spending his remaining years enjoying the pleasures of cultural lectures, senior trips, and listening to classical music.

He possessed an engineer's precision, a humorist's wit, and a philosopher's mind. He will be missed. Donations to any charity of the donor's choice.

A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 11, at Ahavath Chesed Cemetery, Boston Post Road, Waterford.

The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London is assisting the family with the arrangements.
