Born Nov. 15, 1941, in Pangasinan, Republic of the Philippines, he was the son of Lydia Aquino Quintas and the late Eduardo Quintas of the Philippines.
Leo entered into the U.S. Coast Guard on Nov. 23, 1962 and served more than 20 years retiring Dec. 1, 1982. While in the service he served for a period of time in Vietnam during the conflict. After his retirement he went to work with the Millstone Nuclear Facility in Waterford for 10 years as an electronic technician and was currently employed with the Bayer Pharmaceuticals Co. in Clayton.
Surviving along with his mother are his wife, Helen Quintas, sons, Leopoldo Aquino Quintas Jr., of Fort Riley, Kans., John Terence Quintas, of Arlington, Va., Charles Eduardo Quintas, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Paterno Edgardo "Terry" Quintas, of Voluntown; daughters, Elizabeth Anne Quintas, of West Harrison, N.Y., Mary Veronica Quintas, of Voluntown, and LeeAnn Quintas, of Kissimmee, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield. A funeral service will be conducted at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2005, in the chapel at Arlington National Cemetery. Burial, with Coast Guard Honors, will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Lydia Quintas Fund, c/o Wachovia Bank.
