Leroy Getchell Obituary

Groton - Leroy Getchell, age 74, of Groton, passed away Sunday Nov. 5, 2023, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of 27 years to Peg Getchell. Born in Skowhegan Maine, March 23,1949. He was the son of the late Arnold and Goldie Getchell and preceded in death by two siblings, Jerry and Billy; and a stepson, Les Swindle. In addition to his wife Peg, Leroy is survived by his children and stepchildren: son Matthew Getchell (Jessica Getchell), daughter Casey Getchell (Rob Ashegh), stepdaughter Honey Duvall (William Duvall), and stepdaughter Torri Horan (Vincent Horan); his cherished grandchildren: Ava and Lila Getchell, Corey and Tristan Duvall, Tera and Tiffany Horan and Adam Hill; and his beloved great-grandchildren: Makaylah, Sophia, Gracie and Andrew.

Leroy retired from General Dynamics where he worked as a warehouseman for 37 years. After retirement, he was employed at Girard Motors in Groton, and was currently employed at BMW-Toyota in New London. Leroy met the love of his life Peg through their mutual love of country music and two-stepping. He was a hard worker who enjoyed working outside. He had a quick wit and loved to make others laugh. He was an automobile enthusiast with a passion for embellishing and detailing vehicles. We will not say, "we miss you," but instead say, "TU ME MANQUES," which means, "You are missing from me." There will be a private Celebration of Life memorial gathering for his close family and friends.

Vin and I will miss Lee alot..he was like a father to us for 27 years since both our dads had passed.he loved my mom and was so good to her..he loved trucks and cars and loved cleaning them...when he would come visit he would always ask if he could clean my car...of course you can! I will miss him saying "hey kid" and smacking me in the arm..lol.. we both love bacon so we'd send bacon jokes and memes back and forth...
I hope Heaven smells like bacon Lee...you are missing from all of us...

My deepest of love and prayers for comfort to cover my sweet friend Peg, family and friends who will forever hold precious memories and eternal love for Lee in their hearts.

I didn´t know Lee well but he was a wonderful neighbor for the brief time he and Peg lived in Florida. Lee was so kind to my son who loved talking to him about cars/trucks and thought Lees truck was the "coolest". His smile was infectious and you couldn´t help but try to match his smile right back. Peace is knowing he is restored in heaven and surrounded by Angels, although forever will be missed by the hearts he touched

I was both shocked and saddened to learn of Leroy´s passing. He was the type of person always there to give his fellow worker a hand at work or out of work.Leroy, you were a good man!

I was deeply saddened when i heard of Leroy's passing. I worked with Leroy for many years at EB. He was always eager to help and i don't think i ever saw him not smiling or laughing. My deepest condolences to Leroy's family. R.I.P my friend.
