Lorraine Sasko Obituary

Mystic - Lorraine A. Sasko, passed away peacefully Dec. 7, 2023, in Mystic, Born in Albany, N.Y., July 12, 1936, she was the daughter of Ulric and Anita Payeur Blain.

Lorraine married Robert Sasko Aug. 31, 1957, and they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. The growing family made their homes in Fort Wayne, Ind., Windsor Locks and Simsbury, and spent many years on their "backyard farm" in North Stonington, before moving to their final home in Mystic.

Lorraine was a graduate of the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Troy, N.Y., where she became a registered nurse. Her first job was as a maternity ward nurse in Fort Wayne, Ind. In later years, while raising her family, she was a private duty geriatric nurse and an ophthalmic assistant at Thames Eye Group in Westerly, R.I.

Lorraine enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, restoring antiques, gardening and winning at bingo. She took pleasure in passing these creative skills on to her children. She also enjoyed the family summer camp at Pachaug Marina and Campground in Griswold, where she spent many hours relaxing with friends and family.

She is predeceased by her husband Robert; parents Ulric and Anita Blain; and brother Theodore Blain. Lorraine is survived by her sister Suzanne Asher of Cohoes, N.Y.; and her six children: Debra Sasko of Albany, N.Y., Richard (Joanna) Sasko of Four Oaks, N.C., Donna (Timothy) French of Meredith, N.H., Cheryl (Denny) Galloway of Mystic, Douglas Sasko of Mystic, and Christine (David) Walley of Woodstock. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are private at the convenience of the family. She will be buried in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, next to her husband. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of your choice.
